Splinter is the ninja master and father figure to the Turtles.  As a sensei, he teaches the Turtles the art of ninjitsu with the hopes of some day avenging the slaying of his master, Hamato Yoshi and Yoshi's wife, Tang Shin.  Splinter is also the kind of sensei that will punish the Turtles if they misbehave by making him do ten back flips.
