Splinter is the rat master who trains and fathers the Ninja Turtles.  He sent Leonardo on a special training mission to South America for a while.  While he's away, Splinter keeps the remaining Turtles in check and watches over them.  When Leonardo returns, Splinter gives him a reality lesson and catch-up of what all was going on while he was way.  One night, after a battle between Raphael/Nightwatcher and Leonardo, Leonardo is defeated and kidnapped by Mr. Winters ancient mystical generals.  Upon learning about this, Splinter and the other Turtles go out to the city to try to find Leonardo and put a defeating end to Mr. Winters plans once in for all.
